our story

talent match africa was born out of an earlier incarnation: InternMatch, founded by Gerard Holland, now the co-founder of tma.

“Talent is equally distributed, opportunity is not.”

This powerful truth resonates deeply with us. It captures both the untapped potential of skilled African professionals waiting to be discovered globally and the transformative impact they can have on businesses worldwide seeking to scale and thrive.

Our journey began in 2016 when our founder, Gerard Holland, witnessed the employment struggles of international students in Australia. To address this challenge, he established InternMatch, collaborating with universities and education partners to place Australian graduates into valuable internships.

But a more significant opportunity emerged through a pivotal conversation with Zondwa Mandela. This dialogue shifted Gerard's focus to Africa, raising a compelling question: Why was South Africa—home to five universities ranked in the world's top 1%—so overlooked as a source of exceptional talent?

In 2022, post-pandemic, Gerard made his first visit to Africa and launched The Global Employment Challenge in South Africa. The mission was clear: create sustainable job opportunities for the abundance of African talent. The mutual benefit became increasingly evident—companies worldwide could access cost-effective, highly skilled professionals while talented individuals found meaningful career paths.

With insufficient local opportunities for graduates from these prestigious universities, and traditional offshore sourcing models desperately needing innovation, he recognised the need for a forward-thinking approach to international recruitment.

The global shift towards remote work became our catalyst. Western companies, now embracing distributed teams across time zones, opened doors that previously remained closed. This newfound flexibility created the perfect environment to introduce African talent into global workflows. By leveraging digital collaboration tools, cloud platforms, and virtual project management systems, we could finally bridge geographical gaps and showcase the exceptional capabilities of African professionals on an international stage.

From this vision, talent match africa was born.

Our mission

At talent match africa, our mission is to create transformative connections between exceptional African talent and forward-thinking international organisations. We bridge geographic and cultural boundaries to unlock mutual prosperity.

For African professionals, we provide life-changing career opportunities that recognise their skills, expertise, and potential—ensuring fair compensation, professional growth, and global visibility.

For international organisations, we deliver access to a rich, diverse talent pool that brings fresh perspectives, specialised skills, and cost-effective solutions to drive innovation and competitive advantage.

Through our matching process, training, and ongoing support, we empower both parties to thrive in the global marketplace. We're committed to challenging outdated perceptions, building sustainable partnerships, and demonstrating that when talent meets opportunity without borders, everyone wins.

Together, we're not just filling positions - we're transforming lives, businesses, and communities while reshaping the future of global work.

Business impact: helping companies grow with exceptional African talent. We aim to help businesses in the English-speaking world grow and expand by tapping into a trusted and amazingly skilled African workforce. Our professionals are job-ready, can work in any time zone, and provide cost-effective solutions that drive business success.

Economic opportunity: long term job creation Our mission is to create pathways to long-term employment, career development and stable income to empower our talented workers. And of course, companies benefit economically from retaining valuable staff!

Ethical employment and equity: fair wages and opportunity for career growth Our mission is to ensure ethical talent sourcing, which includes equal opportunities and access to quality workplaces for our African talent.

Busting myths about Africa: It seems crazy to us that African talent has been overlooked by the international business community.

Stereotyped views of the region cloud perceptions and spur beliefs that Africa can’t compete due to unreliable infrastructure, substandard education, language barriers, and misaligned time zones.

These misconceptions couldn’t be further from the truth, and we’ve made it part of our mission to fix that and showcase Africa’s talent and infrastructure.

African-based professionals are as skilled, as capable, and as driven as their Southeast Asian, Eastern Europe and Latin American counterparts. They are motivated and ready to work in your time zone.

They are superbly proficient in English and culturally aligned with the business ethos of the US, UK, Australia, and Europe.
